How to tell if a photo is good for engraving?
A client told me:
"I thought any photo would do... until I saw how important it is to choose wisely."
The truth is, not all photos work for engraving on steel or silver. For your medal to look beautiful, the image must meet certain technical and visual conditions. Here, I'll explain them simply:
✅ The perfect photo should be:
— Clear and sharp (not blurry or pixelated)
— Well-lit (better with natural light or good frontal light)
— Facing forward or slightly to the side
— With the full face (not cut off at the edges)
— With good contrast (no harsh shadows or backlighting)
— No reflections on glasses or skin
— No emojis or filters
— At a medium distance (not too far, nor so close that only the face is visible)
— With a single face, if possible (for more precise engravings)
🚫 Examples of photos that don't work:
— Blurry or shaky
— Selfies with the head cut off
— Dark photos or with backlighting
— Images too far away where the person looks small
— Photos with emojis, stickers, or effects
— Only the neck and face without shoulders (too close)
— Low-quality screenshots
— Group photos with many small faces
🎯 Why is this so important?
Because engraving is done with a laser that interprets light, shadow, and detail. If the image is dark or blurry, the result will not look clear or realistic. And what we want is for the engraved person to look just like in real life.
Can I help you choose the best one?
Of course! At Joyas Dina, we review every image before engraving it. If it doesn't work, we'll let you know. We can even help you edit or crop the correct photo.
Just send us 2 or 3 options via WhatsApp, and we'll advise you on which one looks best.
